Annual Labor Day BBQ and Bocce Tournament

Starting in 2011, Chad and Amanda decide to host an annual Labor Day bocce tournament. This would be near the anniversary of the house they'd bought in 2010, and that they'd worked very hard on (especially the back yard). Inviting family and friends, the event is structured as a double elimination tournament. See below for rules.

Rules for Bocce:

  • Bocce will be played in teams of two.
  • Each team will have four balls (in two colors for the two teammates). In addition, there is a 9th ball, white and smaller.
  • One person (randomly chosen) throws the white ball (called the pallino) down to the far half of the court, and then throws the first ball.
  • Tossing than alternates from team to team (and preferably player to player) until all eight balls have been thrown.
  • The team that is 'inside' (closer to the pallino than their opponents) is awarded for every ball that is 'inside' the ring defined by the closest ball of their opponents.
  • Now alternate ends of the court. The team that scored last starts the new round with the throw of the pallino.
  • Play goes to 13 points.

Double Elimination Tournament

  • A classic bracket tournament, with a second set of brackets.
  • We'll try to rotate which courts you play on, so you aren't stuck with the same terrain each time.
  • Number of rounds will depend on the number of teams that enter.
